Marilyn Cernoch Singer, of Baytown, was born on October 29, 1938, in Fayette County, Texas, and died Sunday, June 15, 2014, in a local hospital. She was a 1957 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. She attended Lee College and later attended classes offered by University of St. Thomas. On June 11, 1960, she married John Singer at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Baytown. Marilyn retired from Goose Creek ISD after 20 years of service in 1995. She was a faithful parishioner and charter member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Marilyn was also a member for over 50 years of the Catholic Daughters of America, and was a charter member of the organization at St. John and St. Joseph. She loved travelling with her husband throughout the U.S., Europe, Alaska, Panama Canal, Hawaii, and many other cruises, motor, and railroad travel. This does not include her casino visits and games with her friends at Remington Park. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, John Singer III; her parents, Helen and Stanley Cernoch; and grandson, Jacob Williams. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Deacon John Singer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Roger Williams, and Jennifer and Kevin Angel; one sister, Rose Hurst; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Kay Cernoch; grandchildren, Chad and Erica Hargrove, Shelby and Jordan Angel, Jordan Hickman and husband, Robert, Hanna Jones and husband, Derrick; and great grandchildren, Gibson Hickman, and Brix and Huck Jones. A Rosary will be recited at 6 pm on Friday, June 20, 2014, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 800 W. Baker Rd, Baytown. The family will receive friends after the Rosary at the Church until 9 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 10 am, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with The Reverend Terence P. Brinkman, S.T.D., Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sterling White Cemetery in Highlands. Pallbearers will be Chad Hargrove, Kevin Angel, Roger Williams, Jepp Busch, William Blevins, and Pete Alfaro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Marilyn's name to the St. John the Evangelist Building Fund, and/or a charity of your choice.
