Betty was born to the late William Lewis "Bill" Petty and Jeffie Petty. Following her high school graduation, Betty met and married CW Ramsey and soon after they settled in the small east Texas town of Longview to raise their three children. Betty was widowed by her husband's untimely death at the age of 34 and had to take on the role of single parenthood, raising three small children. Later, in 1970, Betty met and married Dr. C.J. Thomas and they, along with her two school-age children, relocated to Chillicothe, Ill., where her husband opened a private practice. It was here, in the Peoria area, that Betty became involved in a variety of civic, social and charity causes. She served as a volunteer with the Proctor Hospital's gift shop and was actively involved in other fundraising projects associated with the hospital. Routine trips "home" to Texas were highlights of her travel life. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Jeffie Petty; her two husbands, CW Ramsey and C.J. Thomas; and her brother, Billy Petty. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Steve and Linny Ramsey, Jeffie and Dennis Griffis and Ed and Pam Ramsey; five grandchildren, Ryan and Matt Ramsey, Amy and Cody Jackson and Megan Ramsey; and four great-grandchildren. Disabled by a series of strokes several years ago, Betty became a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Chillicothe. Published in Peoria Journal Star from June 6 to June 7, 2014
