William was the second son in his family with the same name. He was named after his brother Willie R. Woodson, who died as an infant in 1855, the year before he was born. W. R. was a Confederate Army Veteran. He enlisted in Company I, Gordon's Missouri Regiment, Shelby's Brigade. He married Genevra M. (Neva) Brown in Fort Worth on 13 Dec 1883. In 1880 he was a clerk living in a boarding house in Fort Worth, with his birth state listed wrongly as Virginia, which is where his mother was born. They had at least three children: Willie (W. R., Jr.) in 1884, Maggie E. in 1886, and Louella R. in 1887. Genevra died young, in 1888, leaving him with three young children. In the spring of 1890 there must have been a flu or diphtheria or other disease, because Maggie died on 28 Apr 1890 at age 4 and was buried on the 29th. Willie died a few days later on 3 May 1890 and was buried on the 4th, both with their mother Genevra. Perhaps losing his wife and two of his three children within two years was all W. R. could bear. Louella went to live with her aunt and uncle Josie (Brown) and William V. Richmond, also in Fort Worth. She is with them as a "boarder" in the 1900 census but they adopted her by 1910, and when she married Arthur Brown Wise, Sr. on 19 Oct 1910, they referred to her as their daughter. Louella and Arthur had four children, and they named the first child, a daughter Genevra R. Wise, after Louella's mother. W. R. Woodson had a saloon and tended bar; he last appears in the Fort Worth directory in 1918. He accidentally found his brother Charles R. Woodson at about that time, after 41 years of each not knowing where the other was, and W. R. moved to Cottage Grove, Lane County, Oregon to live with his brother. He died there on 18 Aug 1933 and is buried in Fir Grove.
