son of John William Lee Vineyard and Fannie Parker. Pvt. Vineyard survived the torpedoing & sinking of the troopship "Tuscania" on 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland by German submarine UB-77. He returned from World War I aboard the "Julia Luckenbach" in March 1919 as a private 1st class in the Camp Travis Detachment, 157th Infantry. On the "Tuscania," he listed his father, James W. Vineyard, Mesquite, Texas, as his next-of-kin. On the return voyage, he listed his mother, Mrs. Fannie Vineyard, RFD 2, Mesquite, Texas
