Bio
Janie Slavik Sommers, 97, of Victoria, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014. She was born May 16, 1917 in Weimar, Texas to Victor and Bozena Bartosh Slavik. Janie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She proudly served as a nurse in the United States Army during WWII and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She is survived by her sons, John Sommers and wife Evelyn of Bethesda Maryland, James Sommers and wife Chrissy of Hingham, Massachusetts, Fred Edward Sommers, III and wife Erica of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Martin Sommers of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Derek, Claire, Emma, Mark and Rich Sommers; Kate Herdejurgen and husband Seann; great grandchildren, Natalie, Hanna and Quinn Herdejurgen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred Edward Sommers, Jr.; daughter, Mary Margaret Sommers and brothers, Charles and James Slavik. Burial will follow mass at Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers are John Sommers, Fred E. Sommers III, James Sommers, Martin Sommers, Derek Sommers and Kate Herdejurgen.
