Doris W. Reid, 78, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014. A memorial gathering will be from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Doris W. Reid was born June 24, 1935, in Earth to Paul Watson Welch & Rena Hooten Welch. An avid reader, Doris' obsession was anything and everything England. She could tell you everything about England from the history of the country itself to everything about the Royal family and beyond. Doris and her late husband, Bob, traveled to England and Scotland in 1995, fulfilling a lifelong dream of Doris'. Anyone who knew Doris knew that she loved her books. Her granddaughter Avalon counted all of the books in her Mimi's house and it came to 1,946; this was all of the books Mimi loved to surround herself with and she had read every single one of them and then listed the read in one of her many "book books", where she wrote a synopsis of a book and her thoughts on the read. As well as sharing her love of reading with her family, she also shared it with the world in the form of her own book store, Time & Again Old Book Shoppe, on 6th Street in Amarillo, for over 10 years. She closed the shoppe in 1997 to get ready for the birth of her beloved Avalon and to travel the country with Bob. Doris enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and had fun going to the Polk Street Cruise with them every year and cruising in a 1968 Camaro convertible. Her daughter Kristen always made sure to include Doris in all family festivities to get her out of the house, including wild birthday parties, fun family dinners out and trips to the Canyon Country Club to see the deer and lightening bugs. Doris was married to Jack Dirickson in 1956 for almost 17 years, in a union that produced two children, Steve & Dona. Jack died in August 1999. Doris married Bob Reid in the summer of 1974 until Bob's death of ALS in Feb. 2012. I shall pass through this world but once. Any good thing, therefore, that I can do, or any kindness that I can show, to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. Survivors include her daughter, Kristen & husband Donny Hunt, of Amarillo and their children, Avalon, Bradyn, Austin & Grayson (Ladybug); her son, Steve and wife Angela of Washington; her daughter Dona & husband Wade Clements of Amarillo and their children, Christina Barnett & Paige Clements; her great-grandson, Eli; her sister, Valta Trusty and husband James, of Pampa; and her favorite nephew, Philip Trusty of Dallas. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to ALS TDI in memory of both Bob & Doris W. Reid at ALS TDI 300 Technology Square Suite 400, Cambridge, Mass. 02139.
