Name: Ben R. Gunn Spouse: Dorothy Jean Blevins Birth: 12 Jul 1928 Ben R. Gunn, 82, of Amarillo and formerly of Lubbock, passed away on November 29, 2010 in Amarillo, Texas. He died at the Ussery-Roan Texas State Veteran's Home. Ben was born July 12, 1928 in Cisco, Texas. He married Dorothy Jean Blevins, February 3, 1951 in Lubbock, Texas. He entered the Army in 1951, served in Korea for 18 months, and was honorably discharged in 1959. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1945. He held a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering ('58) and a Master's Degree in Nuclear Engineering ('60) from Texas Tech University and Doctoral Studies in Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M. Ben was a Registered Professional Engineer. He taught in the Chemical Engineering Department at Texas Tech University for 11 years. He then worked as a Chemical Engineer for Texas Tech`s Building Maintenance Department. In 1982 he joined Texas Tech`s Department of Engineering Technology. He also was employed by Atlantic Refining Company and was involved in the space program at the Army Rocket and Guided Missile Agency, Red Stone Arsenal, Alabama. He was a member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church, society of American Military Engineers, AICHE, West Texas Scottish Heritage Society, and Lubbock Friends of the Library, Ranching Heritage Society, and Hub City Wheels. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel. Survivors include his wife, Jean Gunn of Amarillo; son, Jon (Melanie) Gunn of Valparaiso, Florida; daughter, Sara (Tim) Gibson, of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Christopher, Alex, and Abby; sisters, Betty Jo Lloyd, Newnan, Georgia, Dorothy Latimer, Trenton, Texas, Evelyn Harvey, Laguna Park, Texas, Carole Arnold and Dolores, Colorado. He was predeceased by son, Joel Steven Gunn. The family asks that memorials be directed to Odyssey Hospice of Amarillo or Ussery-Roan Texas State Veteran's Home. Arrangements are under direction of Griggs-Schooler Gordon Funeral Directors of Amarillo, Texas. Born in Dolores, Colorado. He was predeceased by son, Joel Steven Gunn.
