Reginald "Gene" Moraczewski, 90 August 3, 1923 ~ May 13, 2014 Gene Moraczewski was born August 3, 1923, in Nebraska to Joe and Rose Morazcewski. It was a large farm family. While Joe only completed 3rd grade, and Rose 6th grade, they encouraged education for their children. The 1940 US Census shows the family farming in Posen Township, Howard County, Nebraska. They lived in the same house in 1935. Joe, 52, head, farming Rose,51, wife Cash,22, son, 8th grade, house wrecking, lumber company Alexander, 19, son, 8th grade, farm helper Gene,17, son, 8th grade, night watch, CCC camp Harold, 13, son, 8th grade Rudy, 11, son, 5th grade Tommie, 8, son, 3rd grade. Note: CCC was Civilian Conservation Corps, a government program established to build infrastructure after the Great Depression. In 1942, three of the boys had moved off the farm to Omaha, Nebraska. They shared a house at 4109 N. 19th street. Carl had married Barbara, and was working as a laborer for Swift & Co. (a meat packing plant). Alex was a cattle driver for Lewis Packing. Gene was employed at Omaha Parlor Frame Company. In 1944, Gene's brother, Harold, was in the military. It was World War II time. There is no record that Gene was drafted. In 1948, Gene was working at Swift's lard refinery. After Gene and Lorraine were married, he continued working for Swift's. He was a shipping clerk for them in 1954, and a plant worker in 1957. Gene Moraczewski passed from this life on May 13, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Joan, his parents, and most of his siblings. He is survived by their beloved daughter, Cynthia Crowley and her husband, John; granddaughters: Molly Cole and husband Ryan, Bonnie Crowley Buchanan and husband Michael, and Beth Crowley; great-grandchildren: Ava Crowley, Weston and Margo Cole, and expected great-grandchild Buchanan; brother, Harold Moraczewski. The family will receive friends Friday, May 16th from 5-7 pm, with Vigil Service at 7 pm, both at the West Center Chapel, 7805 West Center Road, Omaha, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, May 17th at 10:30am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Entombment, Calvary Mausoleum. Memorials will be directed by the family.
