Bio

Raymond James Woracek of Sargent NE passed away on May 6th, 2014 at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln Ne. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday in Sargent at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Hunt officiating. Interment will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being made by Rhoad Funeral Home. Raymond James Woracek was born October 3, 1932 in Sargent NE., to James Woracek and Mary (Brim) Woracek. He attended grade school at the Round Valley School House and high school at Sargent Public High School. Ray served his country during the time of the Korean War. He finished his basic training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. The armistice was signed two days after he arrived in Arkansas. As a Private 1st class, he went for peace keeping on the front lines. He saw parts of Japan and Asia during his 18 month tour of duty in the United States Army. He returned from his military service to help on the family farm south west of Sargent. During a very dry year he sought work in Omaha, NE. He stayed with his Uncle Joe and Aunt Helen Woracek in the Millard NE. area, while working at Armors, and Wilsons Packing houses and Storz's and Falstaff Breweries. On many weekends he would drive his '54 Mercury back to Sargent to help on the family farm. He met his future wife, Clara Ann Windels, at a dance at Sokol Hall in Omaha. He married Clara on August 17, 1957 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Omaha, NE. In the mid-sixties, he returned to the Custer County area, living in Sargent, Arnold, and Callaway, before buying his father's farm in 1971 when James retired. After that time, Ray grew alfalfa, corn, wheat, soybeans, milo, and sunflowers. He also did custom farming for other farms in the area, cutting and baling hay. And he drove a semi-truck for a time delivering his own hay crop and working for L & L Transport in Sargent, NE. and Cherry Trucking in Ansley, NE. Since his wife's death on March 12, 2007, Ray moved from his farm in Sargent, NE, to first Ord, NE. and then to Broken Bow, NE. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary (Brim) Woracek, his brother, Alvin Woracek, his father, James Woracek, his son, Richard Woracek, his granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Shipp, grandson Michael James Walker and his wife, Clara Ann (Windels) Woracek. Survivors include: daughter, Sandra Kay (Woracek) Yeokum and son-in-law, Steve Yeokum, of Eldon, Mo., son Jerry Lee Woracek and his fiancée Amy Marie Brodersen of Bellevue, NE., daughter-in- law Jolea Woracek of Broken Bow, NE., granddaughter Tiffany Ann (Walker) Martin and Dusty Martin of Gillette, WY., granddaughter Samantha Rae Woracek and her Fiancée Kevin Peatrowsky of Omaha, NE., grandson Brandon James Woracek of Albuquerque, NM., grandson David Martin Brodersen of Bellevue, NE., 3 great granddaughters, Skylynn, Lexey, & Kyleigh Martin all of Gillette, WY., 1 great grandson, Spencer Chase Yeokum, of California, MO.
