Bio

Richard C. Weinfurter, 85, Marshfield, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at Saint Joseph's Palliative Care, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Peter Manickam will officiate and Douglas Seubert will be the organist for John F. Binder and James W. Eckes as vocalists. Burial will take place in Lincoln-Rock Cemetery, town of Rock. Richard's five grandsons and a great-grandson, will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, and 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church. Richard was born July 12, 1921, in Blenker, the son of Joseph and Anna (Obermeier) Weinfurter and attended St. Kilian's Parochial School in Blenker. He married Ethel C. Knebel on June 13, 1944, at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Blenker. After their marriage, he farmed for a time until moving to Milwaukee, where the Weinfurters owned a tavern and he was also employed at several businesses there. In 1967, the Weinfurters purchased the Nasonville Bar, which they operated until 1982. After retirement, he worked at Figi's, Marshfield, for two years. Rich was a member of the Arpin Lions Club, the Midwest Horse Pulling Association and the Wisconsin Horse Pullers Association, of which he is a hall of fame member. He had been a horse puller for 59 years. He is survived by his wife, Ethel, and his grandchildren. He is further survived by 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, a brother, a son in infancy, a son, Richard Jr. at age 3, and a daughter, Arlene Hill, in 1988.
