Bio

MARY LORETTA PAPE JACOBSMEYER November 17, 1922 - April 24, 2014 Loretta died peacefully on April 24, 2014. Born in 1922 in San Antonio, Texas, she came to California in 1946 after she married Riverside native, Vincent Robert Jacobsmeyer, a local high school and driver education teacher, who died in 1987. She learned to drive at age 11, backing the Model T up hills to visit relatives in Dimebox, Caldwell and Fredericksburg, Tx. She recalled attending Mass in 1946 at Holy Spirit Church, now St. Catherine of Alexandria, sitting on hay bales while birds flew through the open air barn as her father-in-law's work horses ran free down Arlington Avenue toward Magnolia Avenue: "They'll come home when they're hungry." She was known for welcoming new parishioners, teaching CCD, making Rosaries for St. Jude's Wirebenders and leading the Blue Army. She raised six children, orchids, parakeets and button quail; played bridge, took up ice skating and the harp at age 60, worked the polls on election days and traveled. Survived by beloved sisters Dorothy, Patsy and Bobbe; children Tom (Mary Kay), Richard (Cyndy), Kathleen (Joe), Paul (Lisa), Will, John; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, dozens of favorite nieces, nephews, cousins. Rosary Friday, May 2, 2014, 9:30 a.m., St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, Arlington Avenue; Funeral Mass follows at 10:00 a.m.; interment at Olivewood Cemetery. Published in Press-Enterprise from May 1 to May 2, 2014.
