Kathleen L. Downey, 63, Lincoln, died Monday (5/22/06). Kathy was born in Beemer to Joe and Catherine Tichota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer. After graduating from Beemer High School, she lived briefly in Omaha. She married James Downey of Wisner and had two sons, Jon and Mitchel. The couple lived in Wisner, where Kathy operated two family businesses, Kathy's Fashion Fabrics and Jim's Western Wear. Kathy was known for her sewing skills. She relocated to Lincoln in 1995, where she worked at Von Maur and operated her business Tichota Designs. Kathy loved her children and grandchildren. She loved making clothing and other items for them and other family members. At the time of her death, Kathy wished to donate her household items to the Friendship House of Lincoln. Member, Cathedral of the Risen Christ. Survivors: sons, daughters-in-law, Jon and Candace Downey, Norfolk, Mitchel and Nicole Downey, Bonita Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Merrit Downey, Kristin Downey, Kaytlin Downey, Katie Wagner, Kayla Wagner, Jacob Wagner; brothers, sister-in-law, Lambert "Joe" and Joanne Tichota, Joplin, Mo., Clarence Tichota, Beemer, LeRoy and Phyliss Tichota, Council Bluffs, Iowa; sisters, brothers-in-law, JoAnne and Ray Benash, Lincoln, Debbie and Lowell "Butch" Nolting, Bancroft; special friend, Thomas Klein, Crete; former husband, James Downey, Norfolk; nieces; nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Joe and Catherine. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Cathedral of the Risen Christ, Lincoln. Father Mark Huber. Beemer Cemetery.
