Kenneth Williams, age 73, of China Springs, Texas passed away Saturday, on January 29, 2005, at his home. He was born January 29, 1932 in Lewisville to Herman Wesley and Mary Louise O'Neal Williams. Kenneth married Marilyn Gertrude Kittrell on December 20, 1963 in Lewisville, Texas. Kenneth retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years of service with tours in Korea and Vietnam. Kenneth received the Purple Heart for wounds received in Korea and numerous other commendations and service medals during his service career. Ken Williams was well known among military veterans in McLennan and Bosque counties. Williams was vice commandant of the Marine Corps League Heart of Texas Chapter. He also was commander of the Bosque Valley Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart as well as an active member of the McLennan County Veterans Association. He had served as parade marshal in the 2004 Veterans Day parade in Waco and was chosen last year as a local Time-Warner Cable "Hometown Hero." Local Marine Corps League members had planned to present Williams next week with the organization's Distinguished Citizen Award, the highest honor presented by the Marine Corps organization in Texas. He directed a cadre of some 44 bell ringers during the holidays for the Salvation Army. Williams volunteered for the Meals on Wheels and the Waco Veterans Affairs Hospital. He collected cans, paper and cardboard and extracted thousands of dollars from them and all of it went to help children's burn centers in Texas and for wheelchairs and transportation to hospitals for children. Kenneth was involved in the Masonic Lodge activities in Central Texas. In December 2004, Kenneth was honored by his Fideles Lodge 1124 in Waco with the Golden Trowel Award, the lodge's highest honor. He is survived by sisters, Gladys Simon of Massillon, Ohio and Imogene Walston of Fort Pierce, Florida; brothers: Wesley Williams of Dallas, Royce Williams of Paradise, Texas and Gary Williams of Lewisville. A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro. A second memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2005, at Lakeland Baptist Church in Lewisville. The family will receive friends at Lakeland Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the McCurley Cemetery. The family request memorial contributions be made to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, Texas 75219 or the organization of the donors choice.
