************************************************************************************** Sarena Catherine "Reny" Moses was born on Dec. 17, 1848 in/near Wolf Creek, Whitley Co., Kentucky. She was the daughter of Holliday DeBerry "Holly" Moses (1818-1893) and Sarah Malissa Cordell (1823-1979), both buried in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Whitley Co., KY. Reny's father, Holly, was also born in Wolf Creek, Whitley Co., KY. He was the son of Joshua Moses, Jr. (1793-1873) and Anna Hackler (1798-1875). Joshua was born in Yadkin Valley, Anson Co, North Carolina. Anna was born in Virginia. Both are buried in the Moses Cemetery located in Pleasant View, Whitley Co., KY. Reny's mother, Sarah, was born in Jackson Co., Georgia. She was the daughter of Stephen Cordell (1794-1866) and Mary Catherine "Katie" Patterson (1806-1883). Stephen was born in Laurens Co., South Carolina, Katie in Rowan Co., North Carolina. They married in Jackson Co., GA. Both died in Scott Co., Tennessee where Katie is buried in the Perkins Cemetery located near Winfield, Scott Co., TN. On Oct. 8, 1868 Reny married Henry M. Wilson in Scott Co., Tennessee. He was the son of James Emanuel "Manuel" Wilson (1819-1862) and Elizabeth Mahala "Hala" Strunk (1821-1911). Reny and Henry were married for 27 years and had ten known children. Their known children were Melchizodek "Deck' Wilson (1870-1845), James H. B. Wilson (1873-1935), Sarah Jane Wilson (1873-1937), William Andrew "Andy" Wilson (1875-1935), Esau Wilson (1880-1944), Elizabeth "Lizzie" Wilson (1880-1944), Minnie Belle Wilson (1883-1961), Harlan Jacob Wilson (1887-1965), Mahala Ann "Haley" Wilson (1889-1971) and Marcus Luther "Mark" Wilson (1892-1969). Reny's husband, Henry, died in 1895 in Scott Co. TN at the age of 44. The cause of his death was hypothermia from falling in a creek when the temperature was below zero. He is buried in the Wilson Cemetery in the little community of Pleasant Grove, located about three miles from Winfield, Scott Co., TN, where his parents are buried. Some family trees have Reny marrying a second time (1897) to a Jerry Walker (abt 1848- ?), however, this is currently undocumented. It should be noted that Reny appears in the 1900 US Census living in West Pine Knot, McCreary Co. (then Whitley Co.) as the "widowed" head of her household. She has three of her children (Jacob, Haley and Marcus) living with her. Reny died in 1905 in Wolf Creek, Whitley Co., KY at the age of 57. She too, is buried in the Wilson Family Cemetery, next to her husband, Henry.
