Johnny Sherrill Baxter, 55, of Meridian, passed away late Friday night, April 11, 2014, in a Ft. Worth hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2014, in the Riverside Baptist Church in Meridian with Bro. R. C. Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Meridian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, in Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Johnny was born in Meridian, Texas, to June Benson Baxter and the late John Oliver Baxter. He was raised and finished school in Meridian. Johnny was a graduate of Tarleton State College with a degree in Agriculture Business. He became a skilled welder and fulfilled his desire of working as an oil pipeline welder throughout the world. He returned to home in Bosque County where he owned and operated Baxter Dozer and Trucking until his health forced him to retire. Johnny was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church in Meridian. He is survived by his children: Ricky Hightower, of Navarro Mills, Jeremy Hightower, of Kerens, Susan Hightower, of Corsicana, Jeffrey Hightower and wife, Stacy, of Meridian, and Dakota Baxter Phillips, of California; grandchildren, Faith Hightower, Kelby Hightower; Colton Haven, Hailey Haven and J. J. Hightower; mother, June Baxter Wimberly and her husband, Cecil, of Glen Rose; sister, Barbara Howard and her husband, Byron, of Meridian; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
