Eugene Lawrence Vykukal, 81, of Frisco, TX passed away on July 12, 2010 in Plano, TX. "Gene" was born June 26, 1929 in Baytown, TX to Henry J. Vykukal and Ann Polansky Vykukal. He grew up in Baytown, TX. He was a proud graduate in 1952 of The University of Texas at Austin, College of Pharmacy, where he was also a Varsity letterman in football and track. Gene was drafted by the New York Giants, however chose to continue his education and pursue his career in pharmacy. Gene owned a retail pharmacy in Clifton, TX then rose to position of President and CEO of Southwestern Drug in 1981. In 1985 he was elected to the position of Vice Chairman. He completed his corporate career as Senior Vice President at Bergen Brunswig Drug Company. In 1991 he returned to The University of Texas, College of Pharmacy as Assistant Dean for Development. His contributions to the College and the Pharmacy profession included serving as chair for the UT Pharmaceutical Foundation Advisory Council and Chairman of the National Wholesale Druggists Association in 1985. He also is a member of Who's Who in America and serves on the National Football Committee Hall of Fame for Austin. A true "orange-blooded" UT Austin alumnus, Gene was the recipient of many awards during the course of his career. He was the first recipient of the UT College of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumni Award in 1979, the William J. Sheffield Outstanding Alumni Award, The University of Texas College of Pharmacy in 1987, and the prestigious Tim Barry Award, National Wholesale Druggist Association in 1990. Gene will be remembered for his unmatched love for The University of Texas, his family, and his friends. His hearty laugh was contagious and could instantly fill a room with joy. Gene is survived by his loving and loyal wife Judy, brother Bernard, loving children Missy and husband Randy Leathers of Tiburon, CA, Mark and wife Jessica Roman of Pawleys Island, SC, Laura and husband Eric Bolling of Frisco, TX, and Geni and husband John Taylor of Keller, TX and grandchildren Sean Roman, Ashley Kerr, Austin and Jackson Bolling, Emily and Sarah Lazarus, Megan and Tara Taylor. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 19th at Weed Corley Fish funeral home in Lakeway, TX from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, July 20th at Emmaus Catholic Church in Lakeway at noon.
