Anna C. (Bougger) Ekeler, daughter of Frank P. and Catherine (Hein) Bougger was born March 7, 1904. She passed away at Tabitha Hospice in Lincoln on Oct. 20, 1994, at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 13 days. she was born on a farm near David City. She was united in marriage to Frank Ekeler Jr., on Sept. 24, 1929. She moved to Exeter after marriage and spent most of her life there on the farm, in town and at the Community Care. To this union five children were born. In 1954, she lost the use of one arm, and lived 40 years accepting this cross, caring for grandchildren and everyone. She had been a lifetime member of the Catholic Church and St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter since 1929. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank on Sept. 1, 1965; two sons, Frank Joe (July 24, 1954) and John (April 15, 1984); her parents; three sisters, Frances, Josephine and Catherine; and two brothers, Leo and August. She is survived by one sister, Caroline Bougger of David City; two daughters, Mary Anne (Dwight) Doran of Omaha and Frances Ekeler of Lincoln; one son, Wilfred Ekeler of Exeter, 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Exeter at 10 a.m. on Oct. 24, with Father John Glaves officiating. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons, Donald Ekler, Joe Doran, Mike Ekeler, David Ekeler, Paul Doran and Greg Ekeler. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons Stephen Ekeler, John Ekeler, Patrick Ekeler, Fred Doran and Frank Doran. Her 11 granddaughters carried white roses at the Offertory of the Mass.
