Bio

"Elton Clark Arnold, 96, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012, in The Woodlands. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 2, at New York Avenue Church of Christ, 5371 New York Ave., Arlington, with Dr. Bill Keele officiating. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Arlington Funeral Home. Elton was born Oct. 29, 1915, in Lampasas County. Elton was a man of God. He loved Jesus Christ with all his heart. He wore his faith boldly for all to see. He was not haughty or proud, but earnestly sought the face of his Lord and Savior every day. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, including his church family at New York Avenue Church of Christ in Arlington and his dear friend, J.B. Anderson, who spent many hours with him over the past several years. Professionally, Elton was a railroad man, having worked for the old Texas & Pacific, then merging with the Missouri Pacific. He began working in his chosen field back in 1942 and retired in 1980. Elton often visited, provided transportation and delivered meals to those that were sick or elderly before he himself became ill. Elton was well traveled, having traveled all over the United States and Europe. His love was anywhere there were mountains. He especially loved the Grand Tetons. Elton learned at an early age a work ethic that followed him all the days of his life. He had the fortune of being raised by God-fearing pioneers who knew the only way to feed a family was to work hard in the field eating what they harvested. He is a direct descendant of many Texas early settlers who bore the hardship of the frontier and was proud of his ancestry. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. He set a standard that is almost impossible to surpass. Many would say he was the most gentle and sweetest natured man they knew, although he did also have a strong "Scot spirit" of making do with what you have. Elton was predeceased by his parents, Luther Franklin Arnold and Katie Mae Knox; his beloved wife of 40 years, Edith; their son, Ray; and brothers, Aubrey Carl, Edwin, Leroy, Marvin and Nolan. Survivors: Sister, Norma McPherson of The Woodlands; daughter-in-law, Geraldine Arnold; grandchildren, Eileen, Christopher, Patrick and Michael; great-grandchildren, Jason, Justin and Samantha; numerous nieces and nephews who all loved and respected him.
