America lost a member of its Greatest Generation. Wilbur Paul Patton passed away March 29, 2014. He was born in Morehead, Kentucky on January 3, 1920, to Alexander and Nancy Patton. Four years later, the family moved to Shelby, Ohio where he grew up during the depression. After graduating high school, Wilbur’s mother encouraged him to travel. So at 19, he bought a used 1937 Harley-Davidson and set out to Illinois and then on to Oklahoma to meet relatives. In Oklahoma he went to work, went to school and attended church where he met Dorothy Norick. World War II began and after joining the Navy, Wilbur worked out of port in New York City on a mine sweeper. He and Dorothy were married in New York City on August 21, 1943. During his assignment in the South Pacific, the war ended. Wilbur returned to Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma University earning his law degree. He retired as an attorney from Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. Wilbur was a loving father to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a generous and free spirit that loved fishing and riding his motorcycles. Wilbur was preceded in death by his mother, father, wife and siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Juliana McIntosh and husband, Bill; daughter, Kristina Beatty Murphy; son, David and wife, Jody; grandchildren, Ryan Beatty, Kent Beatty, Jennifer Beatty, Staci Patton and Jeff Patton and wife, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Chayton and Cheyenne.
