Wilma, who was know to all as Mae, was born Oct. 8, 1924, in Temple, Texas, a daughter of the late Frank and Hermina "Minnie" Jezek Bravenec. She grew up on a farm in Oscar, Texas, attended Little Elm School, and graduated in 1942 from Temple High School. She was employed by Western Union in Temple and also in Portland, Oregon. On Aug. 13, 1945, Mae married Francis Kaminsky, whom she met while he was stationed in the military at Fort Hood, Texas. They moved to Youngstown after his discharge from the service, and in 1953 they moved to Austintown, where they continued to raise their three children, Pat, Richard, and Ed. Besides being a loving mother and wife, Mae sold Avon for ten years and was a driver for the PEDA Transportation for disabled students. Mae loved to sew and was an accomplished seamstress for her family, friends, and others. She and Francis enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, and Mae enjoyed taking pictures of her travels and of family and friends. She also enjoyed watching and feeding birds and caring for her rescue cats, Tiger, Spanky, and ChiChi. Mae and her husband were charter and active members of the Mahoning County Council for Retarded Citizens (the ARC of Ohio, NE branch), and Mothers of Retarded Children. She was an active member of the Mahoning County Extension Homemakers Council, Bethel Assembly of God, Women's Ministry, and Youngstown Developmental Center Citizens' Advisory Council. In 1981, Mae received the Mother of the Year Award from the Ohio Department of Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.
