Bio

Robert Eugene Scarlett, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at Bryan Medical Center East, Lincoln, Nebraska. Bob, son of James Claire and Fern (Seymour) Scarlett, was born April 23, 1927 at Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. Bob attended country schools in Boone and Wheeler Counties, graduating from the eighth grade. He went to work for Wolf Bros. and Reich Ranch near Bartlett until entering the United States Army on March 23, 1946. During his service, he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands refueling planes and driving supply truck on Adak Island, and was honorably discharged on March 29, 1947. He returned to Albion, Nebraska where he worked for Norco Mill. On June 12, 1949, Bob was united in marriage to Opal Marie Luft at Silver Creek, NE. They made their home in Albion. Bob worked for Wolf Brothers off and on, the Mansfield Ranch west of Petersburg, farmed near Petersburg until 1961 and then moved to Loretto and operated Loretto Oil, Grocery and Trucking until 1981. He ranched from 1981-84, drove truck as an owner/operator until 1991, then drove truck for Crete Carriers, until retiring in 1995. Following retirement, Bob drove school bus at Albion and worked for the Nebraska Dept. of Roads part-time for several years. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736 of Albion. His favorite pastimes were spending time with grandchildren and family, hunting and fishing, visiting, telling stories, playing cards, working with livestock, and Bible Study at Harmony Homes. He enjoyed working in the Industrial Arts Building at the Nebraska State Fair during the late 1960's and throughout the 1970's. He also loved bowling and was a member of the Loretto 4 Bowling team. Bob was preceded in death by: parents; siblings, Bill, Anice, Alice, Zeta, Fred, Ed, Becky, Leta and two in infancy. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Levander Funeral Home, Albion, Nebraska, with Rev. Mary Avidano as officiator. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, Nebraska.
