Isabelle Martin, 94, of Genoa, NE died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Genoa Community Hospital Long Term Care Facility. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa, with Fr. Bill L'Heureux celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery in Genoa. The funeral Mass will be preceded by recitation of the rosary at 10:00 A.M. at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Genoa Public Library, 421 Willard Ave, Genoa, NE 68640. Isabelle was born June 25, 1919, in Atkinson, Nebraska, to Stanley and Josephine (Peters) Pilakowski. She grew up on a farm near Genoa, along with her two sisters and three brothers. Isabelle attended Genoa High School and then worked in local retail stores prior to her marriage. On February 7, 1943, Isabelle married George Martin, and they had six children. After quitting farming, the family moved into Genoa in 1952. Isabelle was a housewife and homemaker for many years. She also worked at Dale Electronics in Columbus and the IGA store in Genoa. After the death of her husband, Isabelle lived in Columbus for several years, returning to Genoa in 2010. She has since resided in the Genoa Community Hospital Assisted Living and Long Term Care facilities. Isabelle was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and bowling. She was a whiz at crossword puzzles, loved baking, and enjoyed time with her kids and grandkids. Survivors include her children - Edward Martin (Sue) of Wichita, Kansas; Gerald Martin (Heitor Augusto) of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Rosemary Jungmann (Conrad) of West Des Moines, Iowa; Roberta Kirkman (Larry) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Kenneth Martin (Julie Paulson) of Genoa. Surviving Isabelle are her five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, Isabelle was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her son David in 1969 and husband George in 1983.
