COLUMBUS — Roger Pickrel, 66, of Columbus, formerly of Fullerton, died Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton. The Rev. Jim Howland will officiate. Burial will be in the Fullerton Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Pickrel was born Feb. 17, 1948, at Fullerton to Jim and Dereath (Orender) Pickrel. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane. Survivors include his wife, Jan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chad and Leslie Pickrel and Kurt and Tabitha Pickrel, all of Fullerton; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty and Richard Silverberg of Columbus, Jayme Grella of Beatrice and Judith and Jack Bruna of Wayne. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Lily, Melinda, C.J., Grant, Ella and Harper; his mother-in-law, Marg Bowman of Fullerton; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; and several brothers-in-law and sisters in-law, Chuck and Terri Bowman of Fullerton, Barb and Doug Clevenger of Smyrna, Ga., Mark and Dawn Strom of Navarre, Fla., Lee and Kris Strom of Apple Valley, Minn., and Wendy and Patrick O'Neil of Faribault, Minn. He grew up in the Fullerton area and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1966. On July 11, 1969, he married Jane Bowman in Topeka, Kan. She passed away in 1985. On June 20, 1987, he married Janalyn Strom at Fullerton. They made their home in Fullerton. Throughout his life, Roger worked for the Fullerton Co-op Creamery, Enterprise Electric in Columbus, the IGA in Fullerton, Randy's Wholesale Meats, Clayton's Service Station, and as a truck driver and auto detailer. He also owned and operated Pickrel Trucking. At the time of his death, he was employed by NAPA-The Parts Bin in Columbus where Roger and Jan had lived for the past 12 years. He enjoyed his family, his days of driving a truck, his class reunions and visiting his relatives in northern Minnesota. He was a firm supporter of Fullerton. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Dereath Pickrel; his parents-in-law, Robert Bowman and Alvin and Betty Strom; and a brother-in-law, Perry Strom.
