Edward Carl Tschiedel was born on 30 April 1917, in La Grange, Texas, to Frank George Tschiedel and Laura Herdler Tschiedel. Eddie spoke German in the house as a boy. He attended Yoakum High School, where he met Virginia White. They were married on 11 September 1937. During the Great Depression he drove a bread truck. His only child, daughter Edris Dale Tschiedel, was born in San Antonio on 2 October 1940. He was working for Tex-Tan leather company in Yoakum when he was drafted into the Army Air Forces. He served at Bryan Field, Texas, supporting the training of pilots at the airfield using LINK trainers. He was promoted to Sergeant before being discharged at the end of the war. He became a furniture salesman for Sears, Roebuck, & Company, working for that firm for many years. Several years after retirement he developed cancer, and died on 4 June 1994. He is interred in Fort Sam Houston National cemetery in San Antonio, with his wife, Virginia.
