2-Auto Collision Kills Murray Man, Hurts One Midvale Resident Improves After South State Wreck MURRAY—One person was dead and another seriously injured as the result of a head-on collision of two automobiles Tuesday at 7:35 p.m. at the junction of 5900 South on State. Dead is: Enoch Truman Carlisle, 56, 5813 S. 2nd West, Murray. Injured is: James Butterfield, 39, 6766 3rd East, Midvale, broken nose, dislocated hip, face, lacerations and abrasions. The accident occurred approximately 20 feet south of 5900 South on State and reports indicated that the point of impact was three feet west of the center stripe. Both cars were heavily damaged. Witnesses differed as to nature of the accident, but most agreed that the Carlisle machine was traveling south and the Butterfield car north. Both cars were heavily damaged on the left side. Tho victim had been at the Chick Oliver Shell service station, 5900 S. State, before turning into State st. He formerly was employed at the station as a mechanic. Mr. Carlisle died an hour after arriving at the Salt Lake General hospital. Mr. Butterfield received emergency treatment at the Salt Lake General hospital and was transferred to St. Mark's hospital where he was reported in "good" condition late Tuesday night. No citations were issued pending complete investigation by the Utah highway patrol, reported George Pazell, patrolman. E. Truman Carlisle was born Aug. 14, 1890, in Mill Creek, Utah, a son of Joseph and Sarah Ann Carlisle. He attended school in Mill Creek and lived in Utah all his life. He was an auto mechanic in Murray for the past 30 years. He married Hazel Bird on June 29, 1910, in the Salt Lake temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an active member of the LDS church and was an elder in Grant ward. Survivors include his widow; two sons, Harold C. Carlisle, 35, Salt Lake City: Blaine Carlisle, 29, Tooele; one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Warneski, 32, Murray; six grandchildren: two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Butterfield, Union, Utah; Mrs. Ina Evans, Salt Lake City, and one brother, Joseph Carlisle, Mill Creek.
