George Edwin Mann Jr., 85 of the Clearfield area passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Winner Regional Long Term Care Facility in Winner, SD. Private family funeral will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 7:00pm at the Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD. Burial will follow on Friday, January 17, at 12:30MT at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. George Edwin Man Jr. was born on February 7, 1928 to George Mann and Myrtle Patterson in their home near Millboro. He attended rural schools. Later the family moved to a home west of Clearfield where George lived and ran a ranch until his health failed. He married Kathryn Sell on April 2, 1956 at the St. Boniface Church. To this union there were two sons born; Myron and Craig Mann. He entered Long Term Care in Winner, SD on April 2nd 2013 and passed there on January 13, 2014. George was called to active duty on February 15, 1951. He took basic training at Camp Cook, California. Then he was sent overseas to Korea where he served with the 2nd Infantry Division 38th Infantry Regiment being assigned to a light 30 caliber machine gun. While there he received two major battle stars and was promoted to Corporal. Later their Company G was sent to Koje Island to guard prisoners of war. He rotated back to the states and was transferred to Fort Riley, Kansas being discharged November 14, 1952. Contributor: mary giera (46873498)
