Obituary from The Salt Lake Tribune (Salt Lake City, UT) - Thursday, October 23, 1941: Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Sugar City, Idaho for John R. Peterson, 60, retired employee of the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company, who died Monday in Cobre, Nevada, of a heart attack. Burial will be in Sugar City Cemetery. Mr. Peterson, who was associated with the sugar company for 42 years prior to his retirement in 1937 because of ill health, suffered the heart attack while visiting with a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Druehl. He began working for the sugar company in 1899 at the Lehi, Utah factory and in 1903 went to Idaho Falls, Idaho to work during construction of the sugar processing plant there. In 1904 he went to Sugar City to aid in erecting a factory there and remained as a plant employee until 1917 when he was transferred to Shelley, Idaho as a master mechanic, returning to Sugar City one year later. In 1920 he was advanced to superintendent of the Sugar City plant and served in that capacity until his retirement. He then moved to Salt Lake City. Mr. Peterson was born in Lehi on September 22, 1881. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Johanna Peterson; four daughters, Mrs. Druehl of Cobre, Nevada; Mrs. Frank Garn of Sugar City; Mrs. Zona Smith of Burbank, California; and Miss Dorothy Peterson of Nashville, Tennessee; two sons, Dr. John C. Peterson of Nashville, and Dr. Gerald M. Peterson of New York City; three brothers, A.E. Peterson of Los Angeles, Ole B. Peterson of Long Beach, California, and Arthur I. Peterson of West Jordan; and two sisters, Mrs. Julia Gurney of Lehi and Mrs. Eugene Roberts of Hasting-on-Hudson, Mew York; and six grandchildren.
