' Mr Walter Garfield McWhirter was born on September 9, 1881 in Sumner County, Tennessee, the son of William Tyree McWhirter (1852–1925) and Mary Jane (Blackmore) McWhirter (1858–1931). He was married 1st on December 20, 1904 in Sumner County to Pearl B Hobdy (1882–1969). Walter and Pearl were divorced in 1949 in Saint Johns County, Florida, and Walter was married 2nd to Lonie Walker. In the 1910 census Walter was a railroad brakeman, as he was in the 1920 census. Then in 1930 he was a flagman and in the 1940 census he was a baggageman for a railroad. His 1966 Death Certificate listed him as a conductor for L&N Railroad and living at 320 Elm Street in Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee, Walter was 85 years old and married when he died on October 13, 1966 of a heart attack at home. Survivors included his widow Lonie Walker McWhirter, daughter Mrs Lola E Isenberg in Gallatin, brothers Jim McWhirter of Louisville, Kentucky, Harris McWhirter in Canada and Richard McWhirter at Indianapolis, Indiana, nephew Billy H Evilcizer, nine grandchildren and nine Great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on October 15th at the Hendersonville Chapel of Phillips Robinson Funeral Home, and burial was in Gallatin Cemetery, Sumner County. Tennessee.
