Spencer Advocate (NE); Thurs., 5 Nov 2009; p7 Graveside services for Phyllis Lauretta Kirwan were held October 31, 2009, with inurnment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Spencer, NE, beside her parents, Bud and Agnes Kirwan. Rev. Father Tim Podraza officiated. Phyllis entered the Devonshire Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility in Redwood City, CA on September 10, 2009, and passed away October 6, 2009. Phyllis was born on Election Day, November 5, 1940, during a blizzard. She was the youngest of five children born to Phillip "Bud" and Agnes Kerbel Kirwan at Gregory, SD. She graduated from high school at Gregory, SD, in the spring of 1958 and went to California to visit her sister, Rose Mary, and husband, Richard Smith. She decided to get a job and stay in California. She moved to Sacramento and worked for Smith, Line & French Pharmaceutical Company for 25 years. One of her duties was to make arrangements for company conventions all over the country. After her retirement, she worked part-time in a secretarial pool. Phyllis had many friends and interests in California and will be dearly missed. Her wit and many kindnesses will long be remembered. She is survived by her sister; brother; sisters in law; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Duane Kirwan and Jerry Kirwan and uncle and aunt, Ray and Mary Kerbel, Spencer.
