Norman Derwood Atchley, son of the late Thomas and Maggie Atchley, was born July 28, 1925 in Non, Oklahoma. His Lord and Savior called him home on Saturday, February 22, 2014 in Springfield, Missouri. Norman was 88 years, 6 months and 27 days old when he departed this life. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Venice Pauline Phipps, August 27, 1953 in Springfield, Missouri. They were married 60 years, 5 months and 26 days. To this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Donald Jake Atchley, Thomas Hoyt Atchley, Lellan Ray Atchley and one sister, Alta Lavon Bales. Norman served his country in the United States Air Force beginning in 1946. He retired from the Air Force in January 1971. Upon retirement from the military, he enrolled in the Sunset School of Preaching in Lubbock, Texas, devoting the remainder of his life to serving the Lord. Norman served as a Minister in the Church of Christ in Nevada, Essex, Pomona and Winona, Missouri and in Whitesboro, Texas. He completed his Christian service as a member of the Church of Christ in Winona, Missouri. For those who knew Norman, there was no doubt concerning his love for the Church. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Venice, daughter Carol Elaine Powers and husband Jeffrey of Sunnyvale, Texas, son Bruce Norman Atchley and wife Nancy of Oregon City, Oregon and son William David Atchley and wife Esther of Abernathy, Texas; grandchildren, Taryn, Amanda, Thomas, Alex, Suzanne, Maggie and Stephanie; great-grandchildren Jaxon and Lillian; and sister, Lewene Ruth McVicker of Summersville, Missouri, and a host of other relatives and friends.
