Bio

Lloyd was born July 24, 1950 in Omaha, Nebraska to George H. and Rose U. (Crha) Kahlandt. He passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014, in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, at the age of 63 years. Lloyd grew up in rural Douglas County, Nebraska, attended Valley High School until his family moved to rural Tekamah in 1967. He graduated from Tekamah High School in 1968 and University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis in 1970. Lloyd then entered the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam, being honorably discharged in December 1971. He returned home and began farming in the Tekamah area. On September 15, 1979, Lloyd married Mary Hawe in Heartwell, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Laura, Charles, and Dan. They made their home for the last 34 1/2 years in rural Tekamah. Lloyd loved farming and working with his cattle. He had a great interest in conservation and improving farm ground for future generations wherever he was, including spending part of his last day learning about raising pineapple. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Rose Kahlandt and step-mother, Helen Kahlandt. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Tekamah, daughter, Laura McElmuray and husband, Graig, of Tekamah; sons, Charles Kahlandt and special friend, Ashley Delimont, of Omaha, NE, Dan Kahlandt and special friend, MacKenzie Johnson, of Tekamah; three grandchildren, Grant, Elizabeth, and Kahla McElmuray; brothers, George (Sandra) Kahlandt of Decatur, NE, Larry (Virginia) Kahlandt of Tekamah; sisters, Kathy (Steve) Chatt of Tekamah, Cindy (Stan) Sudduth of Centennial, CO, Sue (Jamie) Swanson of Omaha, NE, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. World Herald Newspaper: A 63-year-old Tekamah, Neb., man who had been swimming in Hawaii died after rescuers were unable to revive him after pulling him from the ocean. Lloyd Kahlandt was pronounced dead Wednesday at Launiupoko Beach Park, which is just south of Lahaina near the northwestern part of Maui, the Maui County Police Department said. Officers reported to the park about 4:15 p.m. (8:15 p.m. CST) and found beachgoers conducting cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Kahlandt. The Maui Fire Department and medics arrived shortly thereafter and continued lifesaving attempts, which failed to revive Kahlandt, officials said. A police investigation found that Kahlandt was swimming about 25 feet from shore at the south end of the park when he slipped under water and did not resurface. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death, officials said.
