Dorothy Helen Davenport Chapman, 83, of Red Oak, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014, in McKinney, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Red Oak Cemetery. Dorothy Helen was born in Red Oak, Texas, to the late Samuel Levi Vance Davenport and Susie Jewel Davenport. She married Bobby Charles Chapman on October 11, 1947 and they were married for 41 years. Dorothy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak for many years until moving to McKinney Texas around 2005. During this time, she taught Sunday School for the primary classes while her daughters were young and later on taught an adult class. She volunteered in the office and wherever she was needed. She also served as President of the United Methodist Women there for many years. After moving to McKinney in 2005 she joined Friendship Baptist Church where she remained a member until her death. She was most happy when she was with her family. She loved to travel and see new places and never wanted to miss a trip. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in September 1989; a sister, Ann Franklin; a brother, David Davenport; and a nephew, Larry Davenport. Survivors include her daughters, Janie McCormick and husband, Cecil, and Judy Grant and husband, Gary; grandchildren: Cherlyn Morrison and husband, Andy, Holly Botyos and husband, Kenneth, Eric West and wife, Jamie; great-grandchildren: Kaylie Morrison, Austin Morrison, Brandon Botyos and Brianna Botyos; sister, Sammie Smith; brother, Edwin Davenport and wife, Martha; and many other relatives and friends.
