Gerald Frederiksen, 85, of Grand Island passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Gerald Dean Frederiksen, the son of Guy and Mabel (Heinemann) Frederiksen, was born at St. Paul, on May 27, 1928, and passed away in Grand Island on Feb. 12, 2014, at the age of 85. Gerald grew up in the St. Paul area until his family moved to California for several years. When the family returned to Giltner, Gerald attended Giltner High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea. Gerald was married to June Eastman on Oct. 7, 1947. He worked for Chief Industries for several years. Gerald had a trucking business he ran during harvesting. Later he worked for construction with both steel and wood, but was a jack-of-all-trades. Gerald belonged to the Platt-Duetsche and the American Legion Club. He was preceded in death by his baby brother, Merle; his mother, Mabel; his grandsons, Tony and Joe Phelan; and recently his father, Guy. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, June of Grand Island; a son, Gary Frederiksen of Arizona; a daughter, Judy Frederiksen of Kansas; two grandchildren, Cory Frederiksen of Grand Island and Nicole (Phil) Stewart of Kansas; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Phyllis) Frederiksen of Grand Island; Butch (Linda) Fox of Texas, who was raised like a brother to Gerald; and many nieces and nephews.
