Bio

Drucille Simmons Messina passed very peacefully on January 11, 2014, just a few days from her 90th birthday. She was born in Ragley, Louisiana, the seventh of nine children to George T and Mary Drucilla McFatter Williams. Two of the nine Williams children survive her, Lurine Warren and Willard Ray Williams. Drucille moved to Port Arthur, Texas in 1942 at the age of 18 to help her oldest brother, Alton Williams care of his new baby daughter. She soon went to work in the laboratory at the Port Arthur refinery of Gulf Oil where she worked for 36 years, retiring in 1979. It was at the Gulf Oil refinery where she met Less Simmons, originally from Burkeville, Texas and they married in 1949. Les preceded her in death in 1971, on her birthday at the age of 46. Drucille is survived by her two children, Mike Simmons and Pat Yarley; and four grandchildren; her loving second family included Wayne and Mary Ann Messina Whitehead and their four children; one sister, Lurine Warren; and one brother Willard Ray Williams. Drucille was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Les Simmons and Lawrence J. Messina; and six siblings. Services for Drucille were held at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas, on February 4, 2014. Burial followed at the Spears Chapel Cemetery near Burkeville, Texas. She was buried by her husband Les Simmons. Pallbearers will be her grandson, Travis and Russ and nephews Don North of Hemphill, Texas and Amo "Tooty" Daniel of Newton, Texas.
