Bio

Mrs. Minnie "Christine" Chumley Garland, age 86, of Bailey Switch, KY, was born on September 18, 1920 in Arthur , TN to the late Ruben and Lucy Helen Scalf Chumley, and departed this life on October 13, 2006 at her residence. Christine believed in the Holiness Faith and was a homemaker. Her hobbies included watching wrestling, growing house plants, raising chickens, and collecting bird figurines and family pictures. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grand mother. On November 25, 1947, she was united in marriage with Charles W. Garland and to this union four children were born. In addition to her parents Ruben and Lucy Chumley, her husband: Charles Garland, a sister: Jewell Taft; three brothers: Claude, Sewell, and Horace Chumley; and a grandchild: Mamie Marie Mills preceded her in death. Christine is survived by two daughters: Linda E. Mills and husband Stanley of Girdler and Lana Marie Smith and husband Robert "Bill" of Gray; two sons: Kenneth Charles Garland and wife Kathleen of Cannon and Marvin Alex Garland of Owens Hollow; a brother: Robert Lawrence Chumley of FL; nine grandchildren: Lana Darlene Stidham, Wesley Charles Garland, Gerald Marvin Kidd, Marvin Dewayne Garland, Shelly Renea Mills, PFC's Jason and Jonas Saunders, Garfield Theodore Cox, and Brandon David Cox; two step grandchildren: James White and Jodie Leeann White; eight great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services for Christine Garland were conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel Tues, October 17, 2006 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Garrett Garland and Rev. Orangie Wheat officiating. Burial followed in the Garland Jackson Cemetery at Cannon with Hershel Jordan, Tommy Mills, Vocus Broughton, Jason Smith, Lonnie Smith, and Charlie Smith serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Wesley Garland, Gerald Kidd, Brandon Cox, James White, Billy Mills, and Joe Stidham. Hopper Funeral home of Barbourville, KY was in charge of all arrangements.
