Janie Kallus Posted: January 14, 2014 Janie Veronica Kallus, age 86 years, 8 months, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 9:26 p.m. at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center. The funeral was held on Monday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, followed by interment in the church cemetery. Officiating were Rev. Tim Kosler and Rev. Ed Winkler. Pallbearers were Mike Hoelscher, Ralph Kalina, Tommy Holub, Tommy Koenig, Terry Parrish, Jim Bloodworth, Brent Bubela and Ross Kalina. Rosary was said on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home. The daughter of Rudolf and Mary (Holub) Kallus, she was born on May 14, 1927 at Ammannsville. She attended Schulenburg High School and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in nursing. She was a Registered Nurse, and worked for Ben M. Nail M.D. and the Methodist Hospital in Houston. Miss Kallus was a member of the Catholic Church, Altar Society and America Legion Auxiliary. She loved to play bingo and games of chance. Survivors include a sister, Leona Hoelscher of Weimar; a nephew, Michael Hoelscher of Cypress; four nieces, Cindy Kalina of Schulenburg, Denise Koenig of Dubina, Susan Bloodworth of Cypress and Nancy Parrish of Cypress; and a great-nephew and great-niece, Ross Kalina of College Station and Sarah Kalina of Austin. Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Bennie Kallus; and a sister, Beatrice Kallus Machac.
