Columbus Journal, April 1, 1896 Charles Krebbs, a brakeman running on the local freight between here and Omaha, was fatally injured while on duty yesterday (Tuesday) morning at Schuyler, 7:30. While coupling, he fell under the cars, and both legs were cut off, one near the trunk, the other just above the knee. Yesterday morning Mr. Krebbs was still living, but it was not supposed that he could long survive, his injuries were so great. Mr. Krebbs was forty-five years old, and had been in the employ of the Union Pacific railroad for the past twenty years. Every man who helps in the running of a train, exercises life-courage all the time, because at any moment his life may pay the penalty of a slight mishap. How much mankind owe to the heroic men who ever day face the terrors of life! Later--Just before going to press, we learn that Mr. Krebbs died at 11 o'clock a.m., Tuesday. - Tom Denardo Added: Jun. 22, 2017
