Shirley Ellen was born February 1, 1935 to Milton and Ellen West Branch, descendants of Middle Valley pioneers. Shirley grew up on the family ranch east of Midvale in the Hog Creek/Crane Creek area. Grade school years were spent in the Sweet Home School near her home. When she started school, she could already read so she skipped first grade. She graduated from Midvale High School in 1952. In December of that year she married Wayne Seid also of Midvale. They had three children; Norma, Jeff and Bill. They later divorced. Shirley always raised a nice garden, canned food, sewed for her and her family, decorated cakes, was a 4-H leader, and was an excellent cook. That interest and expertise in cooking became her career as a restaurant cook in restaurants in Cambridge, Montour, Emmett, Horseshoe Bend, and Ola. On August 13, 1976, Shirley married Charles E Wallace of Ola. They purchased a small ranch in Ola and Charlie worked in the logging industry. Besides being a logger's wife, she continued to work as a cook. Shirley liked people and never met a stranger. She was active in the community. Her family was always first in her life and she loved spending time with grandchildren. She always made Easter and Christmas very special for her children and grandchildren. Shirley is survived by: her husband Charlie Wallace of Ola, her children; Norma (Perk) Rose of Midvale, Jeff Seid of Grangeville, Bill (Terrie) of Kuna.
