Julia A. Covey, 86, died January 4, 2006, in Sweetwater, Texas. The daughter of Hattie Pearl (Blake) and Ernest Melton Lyde, Julia was born on November 25, 1919, in Carey, Texas, and graduated from high school in Dodsonville, Texas. She married Avril Winford Covey on November 27, 1937 in Hollis, Oklahoma. Mrs. Covey was a school secretary and librarian, having worked for 15 years in the Irving Independent School District. In 1998, she moved to Sweetwater. Mrs. Covey was a homemaker and a wonderful cook, devoted to her parents and family. She loved her family and enjoyed sewing for her girls, dressing them as twins. During her retirement years, she enjoyed crocheting and loved traveling in their motor home. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, taking them to Six Flags, beaches, and many other places. Entertaining was one of her many pleasures. She was a avid 42 domino player. She was faithful to attend her church, Fourth and Elm Church of Christ, to the extent that her friends said she was such an inspiration. She was in attendance despite her aches and pains and her handicap. Mrs. Covey was predeceased by her parents, Hattie P. and Ernest M. Lyde of Petersburg; two brothers, Noble Lyde of Lubbock and Blake Lyde of Petersburg; and a sister, Jewel Trantham of Richardson. Survivors include her husband, Avril Winford Covey of Sweetwater; daughters, Theresa Henry and husband, Marvin, of Archer City, and Gwenda Riggs and husband, Jerry, of Sweetwater; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Betty McGaugh of Lubbock; brother, Billy Ray "Bill" Lyde of Dallas and sister-in-law, Ruth Lyde, of Petersburg.
