Joe Dagle joined the U.S. Army on 19 March 1941 at Houston, Texas. He served as a Technician 5th Grade with the 222nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion. Serial number: 38054467. His unit arrived in France in November 1944 and was attached to "Task Force Linden." They saw combat at the Battle of the Moder River near Strasbourg in December 1944. They fought off a major German counterattack in January 1945, a courageous action that earned them a Presidential Unit Citation.
