Bio
Eugene Joseph Lekar, 77, passed away in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, January 2, 2014. Visitation will be on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Eugene was born in Ennis, Texas, to the late Jess and Agnes (Zajic) Lekar. He grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1955. He married Patricia Polasek and they made their home in Dallas before moving to Ennis. He served his country proudly in the United State Navy, serving in Georgia and Florida. He began working with his father in the Lekar Grocery store and later went on to be the owner-operator. He was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and KJZT. He enjoyed working on the family farm and spending time outside. He was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Louis Valek. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Darren Lekar and partner, Craig Peeples, and David Lekar; daughter, Deborah Carpenter and husband, Steve; grandson, Kyle Carpenter; sisters, JoAnn Valek, and Betty Rogala and husband, Francis; other relatives and many friends.
