The Milledgeville, Ga Union and Recorder newspaper had a small write up after his death. This was taken from the Chronicle of Putnam Co. "Mr. John Haley died, a few days ago, of cancer of the mouth and tongue. He was an honest man."

Bio

John W Haley married Elizabeth Jane Griffin in 1850, Putnam Co.,Ga. The Confederate Pension Application for widows submitted by Elizabeth gave the information about his birth and death. It states that John was in Co. L 5th Ga State Troops. This unit is said to have changed to Co. B 2nd Battalion. Further research indicates that he enlisted Aug 1863 in Co. A 9 Ga. Inf. State Guards, Capt. John T. Bowdoin's Co. (Putnam Vols.)
