Quad-City Times Obituaries, Davenport, Iowa, May 02, 2003: Davenport -- Ruth Elaine Torrence, of Davenport, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport, following an extended illness. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Grace United Methodist Church. Following her wishes there will be no visitation. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Ruth was born on September 15, 1926, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Delphia (Morris) Kirkpatrick. She was united in marriage to Floyd Egger Sr. in 1952 in Davenport. He died in 1995. She later married John Torrence in 1985 in Moscow, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1998. She worked at the Kahl Home from 1963-1965 as a nurse's aide, she then worked at Royal Neighbors, first as a nurse's aide then as head medical charge nurse's aide, retiring in 1987. Ruth liked cooking and her cookbooks, gardening and flowers as well as birds and animals. She also enjoyed spending time with her son. She was very proud of encouraging her son to be generous in the community in helping others. Survivors include her son, Floyd "Bud" Egger Jr., Davenport; sisters, Betty (Fred) Boetger, Denton, Texas, Peggy (Lonnie) Pike, West Plains, Mo., and Rose Kroeger, Bettendorf, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William J. Kirkpatrick; and three other brothers who died at birth. Memorials may be made to American Lung Association in her name. Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.
