Carla Dillow Smith, 53, formerly of Carlisle, Pa., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 10, 1954 in Illinois, she was the daughter of Galen Behen Dillow and Carl Lee Dillow. She was the widow of the late David E. Smith. A graduate of Aurora West High School in Aurora, Ill., of the University of Illinois in Champagne, Ill., and of the University of Shippensburg where she earned her graduate degree, Carla was an English teacher at Lake Norman High School in Mooresville. She was a former veteran teacher at Carlisle High School, where she taught 9th and 10th grade English. In addition to her parents, surviving are her three daughters, Lindsey Smith of Charlotte, Abbey Smith of New York, N.Y., and Maggie Smith of East Carolina University; one brother, Jeff Dillow and his wife, Diane Dillow, of Millington, Ill.; and one aunt, Vrene B. Ketten; and cousin, Kelle Bess of Cahokia, Ill. Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 in Brethren in Christ Church, 1155 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, Pa. A private burial will be held Monday morning in Westminster Memorial Gardens, North Middleton Township. Friends may call from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover St., Carlisle, Pa., is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
