Susan K. Burson, 56, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Wedgewood Care Center, after an extended illness. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Curran Funeral Chapel. Private family burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Ms. Burson was born May 17, 1957, at Beatrice to Thomas H. and Dorothy (Bruha) Meuret Jr. Survivors of her immediate family include her parents of Grand Island; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Bill and Linda Meuret of Helena, Mont., Don Meuret of Ord and Retha Meuret of Oklahoma City, Okla. Early in her life, Susan moved to Ord with her family. She attended St. Mary's Elementary School and graduated from Ord High School in 1975. Susan married Ken Burson after high school and they lived in North Loup. They later divorced and she then moved to Grand Island, where she spent most of her adult life. She had a great love for animals. She cherished her dog, Precious, and her cat, Gorgeous. She was an advocate for mistreated or abandoned pets and would work at finding accommodations for them. She enjoyed reading self-help and spiritual books in her spare time. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Meuret; grandparents, Frank Jr. and Emma (Maresh) Bruha; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
