Houska, age 93, was a long time resident of rural Wahoo. She was born on July 14, 1917 in North Bend, NE to Albert and Emma (Bauer) Dvorak. Evelyn went to grade school in the North Bend area and graduated from North Bend High School. She was a very hard working woman who loved working on the farm, bowling, traveling, baking, and gardening. She also enjoyed listening to polka music and going to polka dances. Evelyn was married to Joseph Houska, Sr. on January 12, 1938 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, North Bend, NE. Joseph preceded Evelyn in death on January 14, 2004. Evelyn lived on a farm west of Wahoo for many years until moving to the Haven House in Wahoo in the late 1990's. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, St. Ludmilla's Guild, Altar Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters, and Saunders County Czech Singers. Evelyn was also a long time member of the "Pioneerettes" and "Wonka Oil" bowling teams in Wahoo who traveled and competed all over the country. Evelyn is survived by her son Joseph Houska, Jr. of Wahoo, daughters in law, Bernice Houska of Wahoo and Janet Houska of St. Louis, MO, brother and sister in law, Richard and Lois Dvorak of Stuart, NE, sister and brother in law, Mary Ann and Duane Knuth of North Carolina, grandchildren and spouses, Denise and Darren Morton of Lincoln, NE, Loran and Karen Houska of Wahoo, NE, Lori and Marc Buckminster of Wahoo, NE, Greg and Barb Houska of St. Louis, MO and William Houska, Jr. of St. Louis, MO, great grandchildren, Cassie and Kyle Morton, Megan Houska, Taylor Buckminster, Breana and Trey Houska. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, William Houska, brothers, Joe Dvorak and Albert Dvorak, Jr., sisters, Wilma Ondracek and Emily Roh.
