According to another contributor, Peyton Jerome Pate was born in Smith County, Tenn. He died in Athens, Claiborne Parrish, LA. He married Martha Ann Varner circa 1847. I personally have not confirmed her maiden name, the county he was born in nor have I located a marriage record for an exact date or place. They had 12 children: Elizabeth born 1/20/1847, Julia born 1/23/1848, Caleb Simpson Pate born 1/16/1851, Mary "Mollie" Pate born 12/15/1852, Peyton Jerome Pate Jr. born 10/15/1854, Andrew Douglas Pate born 7/10/1856, Martha born 1858, Felix Crayton Pate born 12/10/1860, Rebecca Francis Pate born 12/19/1862, Lelah Sarah Pate born 12/8/1866, Head Randolph Pate born 3/7/1869, and Minnie Emma Pate born 3/10/1871. Information from Rajordan: Peyton Jerome Pate was born on 15 Sep 1818 in Smith County, Tennessee to Stephen Allison Pate and Mary Polly Draper. Peyton married Martha Ann Varner on 20 Jun 1844 in Marengo County, Alabama. Peyton is found in the Claiborne Parish, Louisiana Census records for 1850, 1860 and 1870. Peyton died on 25 Sep 1873 in Athens, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana.
