DAVID CITY -- Mary D. Sabata, 76, of rural David City died Thursday, May 17, 2001, in David City. Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City with the Msgr. Herbek officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. today at Knott Funeral Home in David City with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. followed by PCCW rosary, all at the church. Burial will be at the parish cemetery. Mrs. Sabata was born Jan. 3, 1925, at David City to Joseph and Antonie (Kastl) Ratkovec. She was educated at Brainard Holy Trinity and David City High School, graduating in 1942. On June 27, 1944, she married Anthony V. Sabata at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and a ASCS acreage compliance specialist, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the church and the St. Mary's Guild. She enjoyed her work with the ASCS and area farmers, teaching school, growing flowers and reading. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Tony (Connie) Sabata of Lincoln and Lane Sabata of David City; two daughters, Mary (Bill) Pogge of Omaha and Nancy an (Douyg) Grindstaff of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Anita (Leauder) Svoboda and Marcie (John) Sabata; and two grandchildren. She was prededed in death by her parents and three brothers, Joseph, Antonie and Quentin. Memorials may be directed to the UNMC Foundation in care of pancreatic cancer research and to the Butler County Hospital.
