Dr. Emma Lee Barthold Nance, PhD July 16, 1912 - January 1, 2014 Emma Nance, age 101, was born July 16, 1912 and passed away January 1, 2014. She was Director of Nutrition and Technical Services Staff, Food and Nutrition Services, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Southwest Region. She was a veteran Civil Service employee for over 40 years and wife of Arthur Nance. During her career Dr. Nance received several awards and certificates of merit. The focus of much of her work was the School Lunch Program and "to just feed the children" nutritious wholesome food for their bodies and their minds. She retired in 1980. Dr. Nance received her Masters in 1972 and her PhD later, both from TWU in Denton, and was involved in private consulting for several years afterward. Survived by a son; Daryel, four grand children and three great grandchildren, also nieces and nephews by marriage. Funeral Service; Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton. Interment; Krum Jackson cemetery.
