Bio

Following a long illness, Thomas Moore Sr. passed away at the home of his son, Paul, in Culbertson shortly before noon on Monday, April 1. He had been bedfast for about two months. Mr. Moore was born at Hot Point, Illinois on January 11, 1870 and reached the age of 76 years, 2 months, and 21 days. He came to Nebraska about 40 years ago and was united in marriage with Miss Ollie Hanners at Oxford, Nebraska on October 8, 1902. They were the parents of eight children, six sons and two daughters, all of whom survive their father. Before coming to the Culbertson community in 1934, Mr. Moore and his family lived on a farm near Trenton for several years. His farm home south of Culbertson was washed away in the 1935 Republican River flood, when several members of the family had narrow escapes from drowning, and the land on their small farm was completely ruined by the flood waters. For the past three years, Mr. Moore had lived here with the family of his son, Paul, while his wife has made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ellen Maharry at Tulelake, California. The other sons are Edgar of Dasyland, Alberta, Canada; Harvey of North Platte, Nebraska; Walter of Merrill, Oregon; Thomas D. of Clarinda, Iowa; and John of McCook, Nebraska and the other daughter is Mrs. Edith Reiter of Greenridge, Missouri. Mr. Moore is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Minnie Brown of Shawnee, Oklahoma, several half-brothers and half-sisters and 20 grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held in the Culbertson Methodist Church this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in the Culbertson cemetery. Rev. Carroll H. Prouty of McCook will conduct the services. Source: The Culbertson Progress, April 4, 1946
